Lagos y Luz: el Algarve para todos
Podríamos decir que en Lagos empieza el Algarve más turístico, dejadas atrás las bellas soledades de Sagres o Aljezur. Sin embargo, todavía guarda buena parte del encanto de hace algún tiempo, adaptado eso sí a la modernidad turística: sus bonitas calles peatonales se han llenado de tiendas y restaurantes y por ellas pasean ahora los viajeros comprando y comiendo al aire libre.
Y eso no es ni mejor ni peor que las playas solitarias y la costa semisalvaje de otras partes del Algarve, simplemente es diferente, adecuado para momentos distintos o para viajeros con perfiles opuestos: del más aventurero al que necesita mejores servicios, del que le gusta comprar al que no lo necesita, del que viaja con niños al que lo hace con los amigos surferos...
Guarda Lagos, además, una estupenda mezcla que la hace idónea para llegar a un punto intermedio satisfactorio para casi todos, por ejemplo: entre sus numerosas playas las hay muy grandes y también recónditas y tranquilas calas; o en su bonito y bien conservado casco viejo hay cosas que ver y también es muy agradable pasear y comprar.
En el plano más monumental conserva un importante tramo de sus murallas, espectaculares en algunos puntos y con algunas puertas; o iglesias tan interesantes como la de San Antonio, conocida sobre todo por su exuberante decoración interior.
Y los amantes de la historia también tendrán en Lagos un buen destino, ya que esta ciudad fue gracias al Infante Henrique el lugar del que salían los barcos de las grandes navegaciones portuguesas que llevaron al nuestros vecinos a América y más allá de África. Otro elemento histórico que visitar y que recordar, más infame que famoso: el lugar en el que estuvo el primer mercado de esclavos de Europa, que no todo aquel terrible y cruel comercio fue en las plantaciones americanas.
Tiendas, restaurantes, playas...
Como comentábamos al principio, la parte vieja de Lagos es un hervidero de tiendas de turistas y restaurantes. El escenario ideal para un paseo de tarde, sin demasiados agobios (hay gente pero no llega a ser demasiada gente) en el que comprar los recuerdos de nuestro viaje.
El escenario es poco menos que perfecto y la actividad también: turistas de todos los colores que entretienen lo suyo, artistas y músicos callejeros, hippies ya no se sabe si de retirada o de avanzada, tiovivos para los más pequeños... Y todo cerca del mar y del puerto deportivo, que es, por supuesto, otro lugar por el que pasear .
Los restaurantes, con terrazas en la calle o en pequeños y tranquilos patios, ofrecen un entorno más que agradable y, sobre todo, una relación calidad precio sorprendentemente buena: el perfecto final para ese paseo en familia del que hablábamos.
Uno de los aspectos más llamativos de Lagos es que no sólo tiene varias playas sino que son muy distintas entre sí: desde las pequeñas calas rodeadas de acantilados junto al casco antiguo y el fuerte de Ponta da Bandeira; hasta las playas más amplias al otro largo del río, largas lenguas de arena ideales para fanáticos del mar.
Luz, complemento perfecto
Muy cerquita de Lagos está un complemento idóneo para nuestra visita, un pueblecito muy pequeño que tiene el luminoso nombre de Luz y que no es especialmente pintoresco, pero que tiene una playa espléndida con tramos de arena fina y dorada y partes de negra roca que parece el resultado de una erupción volcánica vaya usted a saber en qué milenio.
No es quizá tan espectacular como otras playas del Algarve de las que ya hemos hablado (incluso como algunas de Lagos) pero esa mezcla de roca y arena la hace muy original y, además, permite encontrar rincones bastante solitarios y agradables.
Dos puntos, en suma, por los que no deben dejar de pasar en su viaje al Algarve.

Te dejaste alguna de las mejores playas, las que están en el parque natural del sudoeste alentejano. De Vila do Bispo a Villanova de Milfontes se esconde un litoral espectacular. A pocos km de Aljezur, por ejemplo, tienes dos playas espectaculares a pies de acantilados. Y la reciosa cala de Murração cerca de Vila do Bispo
